Patient Testimonial

Peggy Markvenas

Peg Markvenas - 200

After having suffered complete paralysis from a little-known syndrome called Guillian-Barre Syndrome and spending two years in a hospital environment, I began my journey at Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital’s Outpatient Center.

After arriving, I was greeted by the most capable and gracious group of therapists and medical staff. Since I had little or no use of my hands and was unable to walk, they had their work cut out for them. The occupational and physical therapy staff worked tirelessly to help me regain lost mobility and confidence. Many times I was both fearful and in pain, but they encouraged me each time they saw me.

The physical therapists introduced me to the AutoAmbulator™, a computerized robotic device, which both helped me learn to walk again and also aided my endurance. After this, I took my first steps. Because I was able to be treated on an outpatient basis, I am able to stay home throughout my therapy.

I am and will always be grateful to the therapists and medical staff of Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital for their professionalism and dedication.
